We are very excited to be in THE permanent Mammoth Biathlon site. Located only 0.15 miles from the winter closure of Lake Mary Road on the Dome and Vista trails at Tamarack Cross Country Ski Area. This site was evaluated and recommended five years ago by John Morton of Morton Trails, Thetford, Vermont, an expert in the planning, design, and construction of sport and recreational trail systems for cross country skiing, hiking, running, biking, snowshoeing, equestrian and other outdoor activities. This site will make the Mammoth Biathlon much more sustainable and allow expansion of the local biathlon program.
This site is A WORK IN PROGESS. This will be the first event at this location. For our March 2017 event, we have room for a limited number of lanes and a start/finish/and staging area put into the trees where we can fit. Please bear with us as we figure out exactly how we need to configure the area for the future.
In 2007 Drs Mike Karch and Kim Escudero set out to generate excitement about nordic sports and reckoned that high in the mountains of California was the perfect environment to cultivate a grassroots biathlon program. In three years time, their hometown of Mammoth Lakes with its thin air, deep snow, and endless sun found itself hosting the largest biathlon in North America.
Throughout the race weekend a myriad of events from family friendly races to elite categories will keep the area bustling with activity. In addition to racing, there will also be clinics available for those looking to improve their skills as well as those seeking an introduction to the sport.
